ELLIE POTTS BARRETT - CHOREOGRAPHER / MASTER TEACHER
Professionally, I have been an actress, singer, dancer, choreographer, and at times, a director. Yet above all else, I have always been a dancer first. After attending Boston Conservatory and performing as Mary Magdalene in a national tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, I returned to college and received my B.A. in Dance from the University of South Florida and taught there after graduation.
- Danced with the Ina Hahn Modern Dance Company and Boston Dance Company
- Dancer/aerialist with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus
- Associate at the Atlantic Center for the Arts to master artists Merce Cunningham, Meg Harper, and Elizabeth Streb
- Selected for inclusion into the 2002-2004 Florida Artist’s Residency Directory by the Division of Cultural Affairs in Tallahassee
- Selected by students for the Who’s Who Among America’s Best Teachers publication for the years 2002 through 2006
- Choreographed for Walt Disney World, Sea World, Church Street Station, Terror on Church Street, as well as other tourist attractions in the central Florida area
- Traveled to Seoul, South Korea, to choreograph musicals for the Seensee Musical Theatre Company and parades for Lotte World and Everland theme parks from 1995 to 2006.
- Composed the Modern Dance Syllabus for the Florida Dance Masters Organization, which will be used as a study tool for the testing of future Modern dance teachers in Florida
- In 2008, I was honored to receive the Central Florida Lifetime Achievement Dance Award presented by the University of Central Florida Theatre Department.
- A true labor of love, BARRETTWERKS, a modern dance concert, was presented in Orlando, April, 2008. 15 dancers from around the country joined me for this special show.
- Choreographed the Orlando Philharmonic/Mad Cow Theater production of GUYS AND DOLLS starring DAVIS GAINES in October, 2010
- Currently, I am teaching at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, The Dance Company of St. Augustine, The School of Performing Arts and Dance Olympus/Dance America.
